Back in 1928 the first ever Parador (state owned hotel) was inaugurated in the Sierra de Gredos Mountain Range, this was the first of many, and which now totals close to a hundred throughout the country. As well as the Paradores, in the last few years the Hospederias (hostelries) have converted into a wonderful selection of places ideal for a perfect break, a getaway or a weekend, offering you peace and tranquillity, in places where you can explore the local culture, art, folklore, legends and nature that Spain has. And of course one of the delights the hospederias offer the guest is the superb gastronomy, whether it is a small or large establishment. With old medieval monasteries, ancient palaces, convents, country mansions, traditional style architecture and old flourmills amongst the list of places to stay.
